Zach and Allie Appenzeller, our founders, hold Texas licenses and see Texas patients by telehealth, and so does every other specialist on the team. Specialty care for what we treat best.

Every condition we treat is available to Houston patients: in person with Drs. Hill and Osborn for eating disorders, OCD, anxiety, and trauma, and by telehealth with the specialist who fits for everything else.

How Care Is Delivered

How care reaches Houston families.

In Person in Houston

Weekly sessions with Dr. Kaitlin Hill and Dr. Kimberly Osborn: FBT, CBT-E, and CBT-AR for eating disorders, ERP for OCD, exposure-based CBT and ACT for anxiety, and CPT and PE for trauma. Dr. Osborn sees children, teens, and adults; Dr. Hill sees older teens and adults.

Telehealth Across Texas

Secure video sessions with any member of our team, from Houston to Austin, Dallas, and San Antonio: eating disorders, OCD and anxiety, defiant behavior, trauma, perinatal mental health, and self-harm expertise, matched to the specialist who fits. Dr. Hill also sees Hawaii patients through individual licensure. The treatments do not change with the format.

In-Home Intensives Across Greater Houston

Concentrated eating disorder intensives and OCD and anxiety intensives delivered in Houston, Sugar Land, The Woodlands, Katy, Pearland, and surrounding communities: supported meals at your own table, real-world ERP in the places OCD actually lives (the grocery store, the bathroom, the school, the freeway), and family-based work in the environment where recovery actually has to happen.

Virtual Intensives, Anywhere in Texas

The same concentrated care by telehealth: several sessions across a week, or an extended session in a single day, billed at each clinician's standard session rate, the same as weekly therapy. Available from any clinician on the team to families anywhere in Texas and in 40+ PSYPACT states; your clinician stays on the video call through the meal or the exposure.

Family-Based Treatment for Adolescents

For adolescent eating disorders, parents are positioned as the primary agents of recovery. Drs. Hill and Osborn deliver FBT in person in Houston, the city where Dr. Zach Appenzeller built the UTHealth Houston Center for Eating Disorders, the program whose IOP and PHP curriculum now informs our eating disorder intensives. Nina Jolly's caregiver mentorship runs alongside, for the day-to-day work at the table.

Parents, Caregivers, and Young Children

SPACE for the parents of anxious children, Parent Management Training for oppositional and defiant behavior, Feeling and Body Investigators for young children with ARFID, and parent coaching throughout. With children and teens, treatment runs through the family, and we teach the family what to do at home.

If you or someone you love is in immediate danger, please call or text 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), go to your nearest emergency room, or dial 911.

Why Houston Families Choose EBTI

Where this practice began, and a team that now covers the rest.

Houston is where the Evidence-Based Treatment Institute was built. Our co-founders, Drs. Zach and Allie Appenzeller, built their academic and clinical careers in the Texas Medical Center: Zach as the Founding Director of the UTHealth Houston Center for Eating Disorders, where he built and led the full continuum of care (the outpatient eating disorders clinic, the IOP and PHP programs whose curriculum now informs our eating disorder intensives, and inpatient programming), and Allie at Baylor College of Medicine, where she founded the ARPA School Anxiety & School Refusal Program. The practice began here as CBT Texas, and the treatment models forged here are the ones we deliver everywhere we practice. Today Dr. Kaitlin Hill and Dr. Kimberly Osborn carry that standard in person in Houston. Dr. Hill was Clinical Supervisor of Rogers Behavioral Health's adult eating disorder centers, where she helped develop the manualized eating disorder protocol used across every level of care, trained in Rogers' adult OCD residential program, and went on to clinical work at the OCD Institute of Texas; her CBT-for-eating-disorders training began under Dr. Kelly Vitousek at the University of Hawai'i, and she has taught nationally on exposure therapy for eating disorders. Dr. Osborn is a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Eating and Anxiety Treatment (EAT) Lab at the University of Louisville, trained at the Duke Center for Eating Disorders and on the adolescent inpatient unit of the Laureate Eating Disorders Program, and treats eating disorders, OCD, anxiety, and trauma across children, teens, and adults.

That would be reason enough to call. It is not the whole practice. The Evidence-Based Treatment Institute was founded by Drs. Zach and Allie Appenzeller to do one thing well: deliver the treatments the research supports, with fidelity, to families who have often already tried something that did not work. Every clinician on the team is a licensed psychologist with specialty training in eating disorders, OCD, anxiety, or the presentations that travel with them, and every one of them can see you in Texas by telehealth, the founders included.

For Houston families, that means the care you would travel to a major academic medical center for, without the institutional friction: one specialist who carries the whole case, the rest of the team behind them, intensives in your own home or over video when weekly sessions are not enough, and a clinician who answers within one business day. Parents don't cause eating disorders, and families are not the problem to be managed. They are the most powerful resource a recovery has.

If you or someone you love is in immediate danger, please call or text 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), go to your nearest emergency room, or dial 911.

Houston FAQ

Questions families in Houston ask.

The Evidence-Based Treatment Institute (EBTI), formerly CBT Texas. In Houston, Kaitlin Hill, PhD, and Kimberly Osborn, PhD, provide in-person treatment for eating disorders, OCD, anxiety, and trauma in children, teens, and adults, and the rest of EBTI's licensed psychologists, including founders Drs. Zach and Allie Appenzeller, see Texas patients by telehealth for eating disorders, OCD, anxiety, trauma, perinatal mental health, and oppositional and defiant behavior. A clinician responds to every inquiry within one business day.

Yes. Dr. Kaitlin Hill, formerly of the OCD Institute of Texas and Rogers Behavioral Health's adult OCD residential program, and Dr. Kimberly Osborn deliver Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) in person in Houston, and Drs. Allie and Zach Appenzeller, both Clinical Assistant Professors in Baylor College of Medicine's OCD Program, and Dr. Eliza Lanzillo, trained in that same program, see Texas patients by telehealth. OCD and anxiety intensives run in your home across the Greater Houston area or by video at each clinician's standard session rate.

Yes. Every clinician on our team sees Texas patients by secure telehealth, through Texas licensure or PSYPACT, and the treatment does not change with the format. Many Houston families see Dr. Hill or Dr. Osborn in person and another specialist by video for perinatal mental health, defiant behavior, or a second condition, or start by telehealth and add in-person visits later. Tell us what is going on and we will match you with the right person.

Yes, in two formats. In-home eating disorder intensives and OCD and anxiety intensives are delivered in Houston, Sugar Land, The Woodlands, Katy, Pearland, and surrounding communities: supported meals, real-world ERP in the grocery store, the bathroom, the school, and the freeway, and family-based work where recovery actually has to happen. Virtual intensives deliver the same concentrated care by telehealth anywhere in Texas, billed at each clinician's standard session rate, the same as weekly therapy.

We respond to every inquiry within one business day, and most Houston patients begin treatment within five to seven days of reaching out. The first step is a brief screening conversation through our Get Started page.

EBTI is a private-pay specialty practice, so our clinicians do not bill insurance directly. We provide superbills that families can submit to their insurer for possible out-of-network reimbursement; PPO plans are most likely to offer meaningful out-of-network coverage. Session fees and the details are listed on our fees page.

Yes. We treat children, adolescents, and adults, and with young people the treatment runs through the family: Family-Based Treatment for adolescent eating disorders, Feeling and Body Investigators for young children with ARFID, SPACE for the parents of anxious children, Parent Management Training for oppositional and defiant behavior, and child-facing ERP for OCD from about age six, with SPACE through the parents when a child is not ready to take part. Nina Jolly, a parent who guided her own child through FBT to full recovery, mentors caregivers by video alongside the clinical team.

Yes. Through Texas licensure and PSYPACT, EBTI's licensed psychologists see patients via telehealth across Texas and in 40+ PSYPACT states. Families in Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, or anywhere else in Texas can work with our team, including virtual intensives, without traveling to Houston.

Yes. The Evidence-Based Treatment Institute began in Houston as CBT Texas, and the same clinicians have grown it into a multi-state specialty practice: in-person care in Houston, Boca Raton, Chicago, and Denver, in-person caregiver mentorship in Austin, and telehealth in 40+ PSYPACT states. Founders Drs. Zach and Allie Appenzeller built their careers in the Texas Medical Center, at the UTHealth Houston Center for Eating Disorders and Baylor College of Medicine, and still hold Texas licenses and see Texas patients by telehealth.
